![]() The Devs say that no each playthrough will be the same. You will have to scrounge the available locations for items necessary for your groups survival. During the night, you go out to scavenge for supplies. During the day, you manage your shelter (base-building), respond to random encounters when people visit your shelter and monitor the condition of your survivors. The game will give you a random selection from the survivor menu, some random starting items and some random scavenging locations and off you go. This time, however, you do not play the role of soldiers or any other type of warriors taking part in the conflict, but you’re controlling an often overlooked part of military conflict – the day to day life of civilians. I’d call it a roguelike survival simulator, set in war times. Having opened with that, let me tell you a little about the game. ![]() I played This War of Mine until 0230 the day I got the full version. For me, the fact that I was playing a game after Midnight means it must be exceptional. Deus Ex: Human Revolution would be a good example of the former, while the newest X-Com or Crusader Kings of the latter. For games that sucked me in so deep that I either lost track of time, or I just said to myself “Just one more turn and I’m done”. I’ve broken this rule a couple of times in my gaming career. Whatever you can do related to gaming tonight, you can also do it on the next day – there’s no point in wasting valuable sleeping time sitting in front of the monitor. ![]() My gaming time is from whenever I start in the evening until midnight. ![]() Whatever happens, I don’t play in the night. Let me start by saying something about my gaming habits. I’m a little sick this week, so I have the time necessary to put together this review. So, I haven’t managed to push this through before the official release date, but that’s no problem. ![]()
